DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of instructional support duties involved in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of special education students in a classroom; and to perform a variety of clerical duties as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assist in the instruction and supervision of students in special education programs.
Accompany students to regular education classrooms; adapt and modify lessons or materials to meet the individual needs of the students.
Assist with the preparation of instructional materials; assist in the preparation of graphic and written teaching materials.
Assist with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises for students; assist in the conduct of lessons and other classroom activities; prepare for and assist with various classroom projects; clean up after classroom projects.
Assist individuals or small groups of students with academic and social skills and the achievement of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals; reinforce instruction to individuals or small groups in a variety of subjects.
Assist in evaluating student progress in a wide variety of skills; correct papers; report progress regarding student performance and behavior to the teacher.
Observe and manage behavior of students according to approved procedures; assist in maintaining order among the children in the classroom and on the school grounds; supervise students as assigned in the classroom, playground, cafeteria, or while on field trips; accompany students going from one location to another.
Perform a variety of clerical duties including recording attendance and grades, maintaining records and files, and typing classroom materials.
Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits, operating audiovisual equipment and educational training equipment, distributing and collecting papers and supplies, preparing bulletin board materials, and decorating classroom; assist in main??taining a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.
Communicate all matters of importance to teachers and specialists; communicate important information to parents when so directed by the teacher.
May provide input into the development of individual educational goals and objectives; assist in the implementation of the Individualized Education Program (IEP); develop creative methods and techniques for working with students within the suggested framework of the teacher.
Assist in assessing programs and materials to meet the needs of the children; collect, assemble and distribute learning materials, supplies, equipment, and other resource materials; order instructional material and aids when necessary.

Knowledge of:
Basic needs, learning styles, and behavior of mentally and physically handicapped children or adolescents.
Basic subjects taught in schools.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Experience:
Experience working with developmentally delayed or other handicapped children or adolescents is desirable. Instructional assistance experience is desirable.
Training:
Equivalent to a high school diploma. Additional specialized training in child development, education, or a related field is desirable.
License or Certificate:
Possession of CPR and First Aid Certificates.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
